Student loans in the United Kingdom

Student loans and grants in the United Kingdom are primarily provided by the government through the Student Loans Company (SLC), a non-departmental public body. The Student Loans Company is itself divided into Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales and Student Finance NI. The Student Awards Agency for Scotland assesses applications in Scotland. Most undergraduate university students resident in the United Kingdom are eligible for student loans. In addition, some students on teacher training courses may also apply for loans.

The Student Loans Company

The Student Loans Company (SLC) was founded for the 1990/91 academic year to provide students with additional help towards living costs in the form of low-interest loans. In its first year, the SLC gave loans to 180,200 students This represented a take up rate of 28% of eligible students, with an average loan of £390.

Maintenance loan
All eligible students are also entitled to a maintenance loan, which is designed to help pay for living costs whilst at university. All students are entitled to a set amount, with those living at home entitled to less and those living at universities in London entitled to more. For the 2009/2010 academic year, the maintenance loan was set at £2,763 for students living at home; £4,998 for students living in London; and £3,564 for students living at universities elsewhere in the UK.

Students from low-income households may apply for their loan to be increased. For the 2009/2010 academic year, students living at home were entitled to an extra £1,075 (bringing the total loan to £3,838); students living in London were entitled to an extra £1,940 (bringing the total loan to £6,928); and students living elsewhere in the UK were entitled to an extra £1,386 (bringing the total loan to £4,950). The precise threshold for qualifying as a low-income household varies depending on which country of the UK the student resides in, and is set between two bands, with very poor students receiving the full extra money and less-poor students receiving only a partial extra amount.

Maintenance grant
As well as being entitled to an increased loan, students from low-income households are also entitled to a maintenance grant, which does not have to be repaid. Like the extra maintenance loan, the precise threshold for qualifying as a low-income household varies depending on which country of the UK the student resides in, and is set between two bands, with very poor students receiving the full grant and less-poor students receiving only a partial grant. For the 2009/2010 academic year, students from England and Wales were entitled to a grant of up to £2,906; students from Scotland £2,105; and students from Northern Ireland £3,406.

Other grants
The Student Loans Company provides other grants, such as the Special Support Grant which is available for students on benefits. However, the tuition fee loan, maintenance loan and maintenance grant are by far the most common assistance that the Student Loans Company provides.
Universities themselves are legally obliged to give a non-repayable bursary to students in receipt of a full maintenance grant.

High ranking reciprocal links.
Search engines like websites that have reciprocal links to high ranking sites. Many search engines use a program called a crawler/spider to index web sites. Crawlers can find your site easier the more websites which have a link to your site. Crawlers can rank your page easier if you have reciprocal links back to these websites. The more links the better the site. Caution! Dont link to too many low ranking websites (use the link below to check other peoples page rank) and check in the source code that the website doesnt use the rel="nofollow" attribute in the link(this stops crawlers).

I typed "mywebsitename.co.uk" into google and found a website which was page rank 6/10 that was linked to this site. I checked in the source of their webpage and the rel="nofollow" attribute had not been used. I have now put a reciprocal link on my website which eventually should improve rankings. 6/10 may sound low but considering Yahoo and Youtube are only 9/10 its actually pretty high.

Try creating an advert at Dmegs. They are currently ranked 3/10 and do not use the rel="nofollow" attribute. You can find the link at the top right of this page. Dont worry ... 3/10 is not a bad rank for now. Youtube is 9/10 and they receive millions of visitors which is something that will take years and years to even come close(Good luck with that one!!!).

Caution! Some search engines dont like more than 100 links on any one page. This is because they assume that your webpage could be some kind of link farm or scam to beat the system of search engine ranking. Try to keep your links to below 100. If you have more, create two pages or more to soak up the amount of links that you have. Be sure to link all these pages together and make them accessable from at least one of the main pages. Remember to make every page on your website accessable (linked) from the navigation or sitemap. Search engines like good house keeping when it comes to navigation so make sure none of your webpages are stranded from the others.

Check for rel="nofollow" in the source code: To view a websites page source, right click on the page and select "View Page Source"(or something similar) from the menu. From the "Edit" menu at the top of the source window select "Find" and type in "www.yoursitename.com"... press enter. Within the tags "<a hreff="http://www.yoursitename.com"></a>" is where webmasters put the rel="nofollow" attribute to stop crawlers/spiders. If the rel="nofollow" attribute is not present then feel free to link to that website.

Loans, Student Loans and Pay Per Click(PPC)

I currently earn about 1 cent a day from Google adsense, which I would love to change. I have learnt recently that advertising Student Loans is the way forward as some websites are offering up to $20-$25 per click (not per lead - PER CLICK). Thats alot of money for one click. There are many websites out there that use this to there advantage and become very wealthy in advertising Loans.

The best advice I could give to anyone who can give free advice on Student Loans or Credit Cards is to put google adsense on your website. I hope this advice makes you financial gurus very rich!

I have just been to the Google Adwords website where I searched for the keywords "Student Loan" to my financial shock the keywords "consolidating private student loans" are averaging at £25.80 per click(37.73USD). I'm not quite sure what percentage Google makes from that money but these Student Loan Creditors are prepared to throw a bundle of cash at advertising, knowing that they are going to make a huge fortune in interest from a load of students.
